Crafted from premium clay sourced from Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, this Shigaraki donabe transforms ordinary rice into perfectly fluffy grains. The porous composition allows slow, even heating, and cooks with remarkable consistency. Its exceptional heat retention ensures your rice stays warm and fresh after removing it from the stove. While designed for rice, this versatile donabe also excels at hot pots, simmering, steaming, and boiling—making it an essential multi-purpose tool in the kitchen. • Hand wash with mild dish soap and warm water using a soft sponge and wipe dry
• Air dry upside down before storing to prevent the clay from absorbing moisture
• Do not use abrasive cleaning products
• Season before first time use

Before first time use, we recommend seasoning your donabe. The process is called “Medome,” and it extends the life of the pot by sealing all the tiny pores to create a protective barrier that prevent cracks and leaks.

• Wash and dry the donabe thoroughly with the bottom positioned upward
• Fill with 8 parts water and a bowl of cooked rice
• Stir gently and heat slowly over low flame until the rice thickens into a paste-like mixture
• Remove from heat and let the pot cool for at least an hour
• Empty the porridge (perfectly edible!) and rinse well
